Recently, dataminers looked through Apex Legends’ files and discovered different skins for a Volt SMG, a weapon from Titanfall 2. Unfortunately, a later announcement debunked the idea that the gun would launch alongside Season 5, although it might drop later on. Players will have to be content with the changed map and new legend coming soon.

To help pass the time leading up to Apex Legends’ Season 5 and the PVE Quest it promises, Respawn has started the final stage of Season 4’s armor event. The event spawns all players with EVO armor that powers up with kills, encouraging an aggressive playstyle early on. The event also grants players Double XP from a match, but only if they finish in its Top 5. This XP boost is universal across all game modes, but again, is only for players who finish Top 5.

Taken as a whole, this means that the event will encourage players to play more matches, and play more aggressive. Since only Top 5 players get the Double XP, players aiming for it will try to eliminate the competition quickly to level up their armor and stay safe in the late game. Players should expect to see a temporary increase in aggressive Legends like Bloodhound and Octane. The latter may be the choice for players even after the event, as it has been implied he will receive buffs alongside Mirage when Season 5 drops.

Anyone serious about getting the Double XP before the event ends should enter the game with a squad of friends. Now is the time to learn Apex Legends’ best squad combinations, before Season 5 alters them with buffs and patches.

Fortunately, players don’t have to worry about deaths from already downed players, since the bug that allowed it has been patched. Any players who are eliminated early in their matches will have to find a different outlet for their rage than a spite kill after being downed. Rest assured, the fact that Double XP is only for Top 5s will lead to a lot of rage as players regularly fail to make the cut. Hopefully, Season 5 brings more fun to all players, not just those who obsessively scramble to finish high in a match to take advantage of a limited event.

Apex Legends is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
