In a message titled “Some Clarity Around Datamining and Season 1,” Respawn community manager Jay Frechette explicitly states that “Season 1, Battle Pass, and the next Legend” will not be out today. He does confirm that they’ll all be out “very soon,” just not today like players may have begun to expect. So while it may not be the news Apex Legends players were hoping to hear, it does confirm that the content they’re now expecting is near.
Regarding today’s Origin datamine, Frechette speaks more ambiguously. It’s accurate to say that at this point in time, not even Respawn is sure if all of the content it’s working on will make it into Apex Legends. Frechette’s message works to make that reality clear so players don’t get their hopes up:
What Frechette is speaking about specifically, whether it be the 10 leaked characters found today or the Rocket Launcher found yesterday, isn’t clear, but his comments cover a broad ambiguity. Nothing past Season 1, the Battle Pass, and Octane is certain.
Apex Legends players likely won’t have to wait long for Season 1 to begin. Between the confirmation that the update is planned for release “very soon” and the major update to Origin that went out today despite Season 1’s start apparently not yet being ready, it’s clear launch is very close. Whether that be a day, a week, or more, is entirely up to Respawn. As today’s message makes clear, content will be released for Apex Legends as it’s ready and only when it’s ready, and the Respawn team will be the first one celebrating its availability.
Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
