Apex Legends is a movement shooter, meaning aggression and mobility usually win fights more so than camping a single spot. Rampart seems to be the most useful during the late game, where there is less space to move and the aim of the match is to hold a spot for as long as possible. Still, even with the ring slowly closing in, there are other defensive legends which can do the job more efficiently with their abilities (i.e. Caustic or Gibraltar). As such, Rampart could benefit from a new Passive.

Rampart’s Passive Isn’t Up To Par With Other Legends
Rampart’s abilities need some love (and maybe another rework) to put her in the same Legend tier as her defensive brothers and sisters. While her Sheila minigun has been made more mobile, and her Amped Cover has had its deploy time decreased, one piece of Rampart’s kit hasn’t seen any changes at all: her passive. Modded Loader increases Rampart’s reload speed and magazine size when holding a light machine gun. This ties well with the character’s lore, as she specializes in modifying and creating new weaponry.
While the passive isn’t bad, it pales in comparison to legends such as Seer, whose Heart Seeker passive allows him to discern the general direction and distance of enemies, and the recently released Mad Maggie, whose Warlord’s Ire passive allows her to run quicker with shotguns and momentarily see enemies she has hit through walls. Reworking Rampart’s passive is something best left to the hands of Respawn Entertainment, Apex Legends’ developers, but adding a little something more to her Modded Loader passive might help make the character more appealing to players.
Her Modded Loader Passive Should Allow Her To Repair Doors
With this in mind, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to add a passive ability that allows Rampart to repair the game’s many doors. Doors, for those who haven’t played Apex Legends, are an integral part of combat. They stop incoming bullets, can withstand up to two melee attacks, momentarily block grenade blasts, and help break an enemy’s line of sight. A good player can work around the game’s many doors to their advantage; denying adversaries access while giving them and their teammates some breathing room.
Giving the character the passive ability to repair doors plays not only to her role as a defense legend, but also builds off of Rampart’s occupation as a modder and fixer. It isn’t too overpowered that it can be classified as a tactical or ultimate ability (provided the developers balance it properly), and it gives Rampart players new options when it comes to holding down an area that had its doors blown off. Doing so would breathe new life into the character and make her more interesting to play with and against.
This is just one piece of Rampart’s kit that could be improved upon. While she still is a fun character to many, adding more depth to the legend would be a big step in making her more appealing to the majority of Apex Legends players.
Apex Legends is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, while a Mobile version is available in some regions.
