However, Apex players want an event or new game mode that allows for 5-man squads. Though players understand the mode would be complete imbalanced chaos, they also believe it would be a lot of fun.

The question of whether players would want a 5-man mode was created by Reddit user gwarchild911, who posed the question to the Apex subreddit. Many users praised the idea, agreeing that it would be a very fun mode to add to the game. However, some users were quizzical about how this new Apex feature would be balanced.

For example, some users questioned if there would be enough drops for 5-man squads. Currently, Apex balancing works around having enough drops for 3-man teams or less. For a 5-man mode to work, users agreed its drops would need to be rebalanced to accommodate. Also, users agreed the new mode should not be a ranked mode, with some questioning how the mode would count score and others saying it would be too random.

The most intriguing aspect of a 5-man Apex game would probably be how the strategy would change for players. For example, in 3-man squads, players in a squad will sometimes separate from one another at the start of a match, regrouping soon after; this is done to collect a higher quality and quantity of drops quickly. However, as one Reddit user said, “Imagine a team of 5 landing on and punching you to death in less than a second.” The threat of larger squads would heavily affect solo drops, making them much riskier. Traditional Apex strategies and team compositions would change drastically from 3-man squads to make up for the new play patterns, making for a fresh, unique experience.

Apex events in the past have managed to change gameplay in dynamic ways, but none of the past events would change the game as much as 5-man squads. Changing a concept at its base so drastically creates an entirely new product. If balanced correctly, with enough tinkering and fine-tuning by devs, a future event featuring a 5-man squad mode could be a smash hit for the game.

Apex Legends is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
