Secret reload animations in Apex Legends were first discovered in 2019 when a player witnessed a rare G7 Scout reload where the magazine was ejected from the top, which could be triggered once players ran out of ammo. Some have pointed out that the animation seemed to be a callback to Titanfall 2, the first-person shooter that shares the same universe as Apex Legends. Aside from the G7 Scout, another player also found a rare one-handed reload animation for the Peacekeeper in the same year, which was done while riding a zip line in Kings Canyon. This prompted discussions among players on just how many secret reload animations there are in the game.

The latest reload animation to catch Apex Legends players’ attention involves the R-99, as shared on Reddit by Jemaniema. In the clip, it showed their Wraith reloading and disposing of their R-99’s magazine in World’s Edge’s lava pool, which the player thought was odd at first because they’d never seen the animation before. They then proceeded to test it out with other guns by reloading them while moving near the lava pool, and eventually figured out that it was specific to the R-99, although they didn’t know how rare the reload animation was.

Players in the comment section were just as surprised that this secret R-99 reload animation existed, expressing that they never experienced it firsthand despite putting in thousands of hours in Apex Legends. However, many also suggested that this could simply be a visual bug caused by certain movements since Legends would often throw away the R-99 magazine when reloading, but it’s often not noticeable. As of writing, the developers haven’t acknowledged the secret R-99 reload animation, but it also wouldn’t be a surprise to some players if it turned out to not be visual bug since Apex Legends has had a similar problem with reloading before.

Although it’s still unclear just how many rare reload animations there are in Apex Legends, many players seem to be more interested in finding other secrets that could help them win, such as a hidden cave in Kings Canyon, and game-breaking exploits using some Legends’ abilities.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
