Kings Canyon is a map located on the planet Solace that features a variety of areas for players to explore and battle through. Combat takes place on an island divided down the middle by a river, filled with creatures, and surrounded by water on all sides. The island environment includes military facilities, slums, a hazardous cliff-strewn coast, and even a network of caves.

Since 2019, Kings Canyon has been taken down several times for major reworks, leading to significant changes in how the map looks and encourages play. Now, Respawn Entertainment has announced over its verified Twitter account that the map is once again disabled, this time thanks to an unfortunate bug. According to a pair of tweets, Respawn Entertainment has become aware of an issue that leads players to encounter an error message while in-game. The developers have disabled Kings Canyon while they work to address the problem.
The long history of Kings Canyon means it has been in the Apex Legends map rotation for the game’s entire history, not counting the times it’s been disabled for reworks. However, gamers have recently begun to express frustrations with the map for a variety of reasons. One major complaint is that it offers very little to help players stop or stall a third party. Another issue is that the loot could be spread more evenly between various locations instead of concentrated in just a few.
As of writing, many Apex Legends fans appear to be relieved that Kings Canyon is being taken down again. With the common criticisms of the map’s recent performance in mind, it may be easy to see why this decision would be a relief. One Twitter user went so far as to reply telling Respawn Entertainment not to bring Kings Canyon back. Although the tweets focus on the specific error message problem that led to the map being disabled, it’s possible that Apex Legends could add some new changes to Kings Canyon before putting it back up.
Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
