During a recent roundtable with Respawn Entertainment, Game Rant asked how Seer operates in comparison to Bloodhound and Crypto. It seems fans of these characters shouldn’t worry too much, as according to Apex Legends gameplay software Engineer Travis Nordin, Seer has a fundamental difference in comparison to these two characters.

Recon characters, as with all classes, have a wide variability of use. For example, Pathfinder and Valkyrie are both recon characters in Apex Legends which focus on movement and placement of the squad to get the upper hand against enemies. Bloodhound and Crypto, on the other hand, are about understanding and tracking enemies in a wide area. As Nordin put it, “Crypto can check banners or fly his drone far away. Bloodhound can find his bread crumbs to lead you to where a squad might be.”

Apex Legends’ new character Seer stands in contrast to this. Seer may not know how many enemies are in an entire POI and he can’t track enemies like Bloodhound. His range on both his passive and ultimate are much smaller than that, so whereas Crypto and Bloodhound cover more ground, Seer is more focused.

His tactical has been described as more of a “sniper shot” in terms of size and ability to hit in contrast to Bloodhound’s scan or Crypto’s drone. His sphere, at the same time, gathers a lot of information within itself. Of course, that means there are comparisons, as Nordin acknowledges “he’s a recon character who can scan as well,” but he also says that “he plays quite a bit differently than Bloodhound or Crypto.

A close-range recon character is interesting, and with the launch of Apex Legends season 10 not long away, fans will be able to see how this works for themselves. It’ll be interesting to see where Seer lands on the character tier list this season, but he sounds promising overall.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
